How local can you go? That’s the challenge during KC Local Week – a seven day movement (Aug. 17-23) that encourages the community to eat, drink and shop Kansas City.

So in the spirit of keeping it KC, here are a few of my favorite local shops and restaurants:

1. Season+Square

Season and Square
Need to spice up your life? Season+Square has you covered. This adorable Brookside shop sells everything from books to bitters, chocolates to candles and spices galore. Be sure to check out their selection of Salty Road Taffy. I’m a big fan of their Sea Salt Caramel.

2. Glace Artisan Ice Cream

Glace Ice Cream
School may have started, but summer is still in full swing. That means ice cream is a must have – and you must have Glacè. You can’t go wrong with any of their flavors…whether it’s Farmer Bob’s Sweet Corn or Blackberry Chocolate Flake (pictured above).

3. Cleaver & Cork

Cleaver and Cork
The Power & Light restaurant that feels so un-Power & Light happens to have one of my favorite Happy Hours. Sip $5 sparkling wine and $6 craft cocktails and snack on Cleaver & Cork’s most notable appetizer – homemade cheese curds and fried pickles. Think a thick, fried batter. Melty inside. And accompanied by house-made buttermilk ranch. I suggest a double order.

4. Q39

Q39
Okay, this sandwich pretty much speaks for itself, but I’ll introduce you. Meet Mr. Burns from Q39. A sandwich made with the restaurant’s award-winning burnt ends, house-made chipotle BBQ sauce, pepper jack cheese and crispy onion straws. It’s a mouthful, but then again, KC Local Week only happens once a year.
