Q39 teams up with local brewer for exclusive offering – Kansas City Business Journal

Q39 teamed up with a local craft brewer to offer a new exclusive beer at its two area restaurants.

Martin City Brewing Co. created Brew 39, an amber-style beer made with smoked malt and old English yeast. It was mashed at a slightly higher temperature to round out the bitterness and sweetness. The new beer has an alcohol content of 6.5 percent.

The beer is the result of a collaboration between Q39 co-owner and chef Rob Magee and Martin City brewmaster Nick Vaughn.

“This is such an easy-drinking beer that goes perfectly with barbecue,” said Matthew Moore, co-founder and director of operations at Martin City Brewing. “I think our brewers just really knocked it out of the park with this one.”

Brew 39 will be sold at only three locations:

  • Q39 restaurant at 1000 W. 39th St. in Kansas City, Kan.
  • Q39 restaurant at 11051 Antioch Road in Overland Park
  • Martin City Brewing’s taproom at 500 E. 135th St. in Kansas City

Moore said Q39 had wanted to offer an exclusive beer at its restaurants for awhile and reached out to Martin City Brewing to collaborate because they have been selling a lot of their Belgian Style Blond Ale in cans.

“We had really been pushing hard to get our beer on tap there, and when they opened the new south location (in Overland Park) they put our Hard Way India Pale Ale and Belgian Blond on tap there,” Moore said. “It started selling like wildfire. I think they saw the momentum behind us and we see them as one of the fastest growing restaurants in Kansas City. So I probably couldn’t think of a better partner to have at this point in time. I’m very happy to be presented in the same light as their brand.”

Martin City Brewing opened its doors in 2011. Q39 opened its first restaurant in Kansas City, Kan., in 2014. It opened its second restaurant in Overland Park in August.
