Eat it KC – Q39 Celebrates One Year With New Menu Items
One year ago, restaurant owner Rob McGee raised the bar on Kansas City barbeque when Q39 opened its doors. That’s quite the achievement when you’re located in the ‘Que capital of the world. But Rob’s restaurant was a fresh concept – with a menu featuring both barbeque and wood-fire grilled dishes, served from the area’s first open kitchen.
To celebrate the first anniversary, the restaurant added eight new menu items available May 11. See that saucy little number above? Yep, that’s one of them. Lovingly named Mr. Burns – a sandwich made with Q39’s famous burnt ends, house-made chipotle BBQ sauce, pepper jack cheese and crispy onion straws. The layers of crunch and sauce and cheese take a back seat to the smoky, tender hunks of beef that make this sandwich.
Q39 Ball Park Pork
The Ball Park Pork sandwich is a personal favorite. Similar to a Cuban, Q39’s version is made with pulled pork, white cheddar fondue, yellow mustard and pickles on the most incredible pretzel bun. How good is this sandwich? Let’s just say I ate mine, plus half of another that a stranger abandoned at the tasting event. I’m a savage, I know.
Dessert was eaten in similar fashion.
Q39 Kansas City Root Beer Float
That’s because this is no ordinary root beer float. Q39’s is made with Root Sellers Row Hard Root Beer, a beer that’s root beer. Or root beer that’s beer. Basically, it tastes like the drink we all loved as kids, but now with 6.7% alcohol. Nostalgia at its finest.
Q39 Fudge BrowniesAlso new to the menu is Q39’s Fudge Brownie. It’s served warm with vanilla bean ice cream, caramel, hot fudge and candied pecans. Lemme tell ya, there’s nothing more rewarding than a delicious brownie after you’ve just conquered 10 pounds of meat and eaten off a stranger’s plate. I would’ve had two of these but there weren’t any more around to snag. Next time.
Check out all of Q39’s new dishes by visiting them Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. – 10 p.m., Friday and Satuday 11 a.m. – 11 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.
