After years of competing in the Championship BBQ scene, including winning dozens of championships, Rob and Kelly Magee opened Q39 in 2014. But this BBQ heritage isn’t the only thing that makes Q39 stand out against the other BBQ restaurants in Kansas City.
Q39 serves BBQ pit-to-plate, which means you won’t find a microwave in the restaurant; everything is cooked on the pit and served directly to your plate. Rob Magee grew his love for barbecue by competing in barbecue competitions. Although Rob passed away in 2021, Q39 has upheld Rob’s love for competition-style BBQ by serving exactly that every day.
Q39 proudly sources the meat they serve in their restaurant from Certified Angus Beef (CAB), which exceeds multiple quality standards and supports local ranchers in MO, KS and AK.
Q39 is led by 6 classically trained chefs and certified pitmasters. Nearly everything you’ll find on the Q39 menu is made in-house, from the soaked and baked beans to the house-made jalapeño cilantro slaw and chipotle aioli for the Q Dog.
