Q39 Unveils Award-Winning Barbeque and Wood-Fire Grill Menu for April 12 Opening

New full-service, urban-rustic restaurant to blend diverse national-championship barbeque cooking techniques with wood-fired grill in open kitchen for lunch, dinner and carryout.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (April 9, 2014) – Q39, a new concept in barbeque and wood-fire grilling, officially opens its doors to the public April 12 at 11 a.m. Led by national-champion barbeque pitmaster Rob Magee, the restaurant is a full-service concept featuring the area’s first open barbeque scratch kitchen. Surrounded by dedicated parking in Kansas City, Mo.’s eclectic West 39th Street neighborhood, Q39 is also home to a full-service bar serving original cocktails and hand-selected local beers and wines.

Q39 will serve barbeque fare in a setting that bucks the idea of a “barbeque joint.” The restaurant’s design is the work of Arizona-based Realm Architecture + Design, the team responsible for the design of other notable Kansas City restaurants, including Gram & Dun and BRGR. The newly transformed space uses wood and rustic lighting to create a warm, comfortable atmosphere that draws inspiration from barbeque’s rustic past while paying tribute to the restaurant’s urban setting.

Q39 is the concept of husband-and-wife team, Rob and Kelly Magee of Prairie Village, Kan. Rob, along with his competitive team, Munchin’ Hogs, holds dozens of first-place awards for original barbeque from competitions across the country, many of which are on display in the restaurant. Most notably, the team holds reserve championship and two national grand championships from the Kansas City Barbeque Society.

Q39 Cooking Styles

Q39 features specialties based on two Kansas City favorites, barbeque and wood-fire grilling.

Barbeque – Q39 barbeque is cooked using hickory wood in indirect heat. The hickory is a stronger-flavored wood used to saturate heavier meats such as ribs, chicken and pork shoulder. Barbequed meats are cooked until tender and seasoned with house-developed, original sauces.

Wood-Fire Grilling – In addition to national-champion barbeque, Q39 offers lighter dishes such as hamburgers, steak and seafood cooked using a wood-fire grill. The grill uses oak wood, giving the meat smoky flavor while sealing in the natural juices.

About the Menu

Q39 will feature dedicated lunch, dinner and convenient carryout. Created in a scratch kitchen, nearly all of the items on the menu are contest award-winning dishes.

  • Sharables – Fun and contemporary starting dishes including, barbeque sliders, cheese fondue and spiced onion straws.
  • Soups and Salads – For meal starting options or healthier alternatives.
  • Munchin’ Hogs Barbeque Sandwiches – Choose from pulled pork, beef brisket, burnt ends, chicken breast or house-made chipotle sausage to make the traditional barbeque sandwich.
  • Specialty Sandwiches – Pairing barbeque smoked meats with other culinary combinations, adding a unique spin to the traditional barbeque sandwich.
  • Competition Barbeque Plates – Designed for the barbeque purist, these plates will be prepared with the same quality and specifications used to receive the highest national awards.
  • ·         Brisket Burgers – Q39’s burgers are made from USDA certified Black Angus ground brisket and chuck.
  • Wood-Fried Grilled Plates – Featuring a selection of steak and seafood.
